Welcome to My Project

Welcome to my game project for my Graded Unit 2 for the HND Digital Design and Development (Games) course I am currently studying, which is to create my game Face The History a quiz based game with the 3D element of a playable character exploring a world map. I will be using these development log posts to explain and show the different digital marketing techniques used when developing a game for release.

The main importance of digital marketing is to get interest in your game so that when it is fully released there are people ready to play it immediately. Whilst some people think marketing happens at the end once you have a full game, it is actually better to start marketing earlier on so that you can gauge audience reception (DellaFave, 2021).

There are four main ways to market your game digitally, these include;

  • A website: Either for all games you will produce or just the one, this needs to be updated frequently. It should feature a homepage with an extended overview, screenshots (captivating ones that showcase your game) and relevant links (DellaFave, 2021).
  • Social media: Has been proven to reach a large audience in helping to market a game to wider audiences and should be used, sometimes with even another game releasing at the same end date helping gain attention for your game such as in the case for Doom Eternal and Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Lee, 2021), even if just creating a small presence with just facebook and twitter pages (DellaFave, 2021).
  • A development log: Not as essential as the previous too, some gamers and other developers do like to read about the personal struggle of developers whilst making a game from struggles to triumphs (DellaFave, 2021).
  • Trailers: This is a late stage since it will require actual captures from your game as it nears completion to make but these are the most important thing to get people excited for a game as they can be used to showcase the story, characters, gameplay etc. (DellaFave, 2021).
